For the first time in three grand slam final appearances, Ana Ivanovic will be expected to win.Ivanovic's two previous grand slam finals were Roland Garros 2007 which she lost to Justin Henin 6-1, 6-2 and the Australian Open 2008 which she lost to Sharapova.She would be aiming for the maiden French Open title which is the perfect way to honour her future No.1 ranking which she will hold as of monday.
Ivanovic leads 2-1 head to head. She beat Safina at Montreal and Wimbledon in 2006.
Dinara Safina is the Unexpected Finalist.The No.14 seed was 1 set and 5-2 down against Sharapova in the fourth round and against Elena Dementieva in the quaterfinal but she came back from nowhere to beat Sharapova 6-7, 7-6(5), 6-2 and Dementieva 4-6, 7-6(5), 6-0.
The only match won by Safina was in Berlin in 2005 (6-1 6-4), 3 years ago, but it was on clay.
